Are you LGBTQ+ and want a family?

Reading Time: 3 minutes

Creating a family for the LGBTQ+ community has never looked so promising. The Modern Family Show 2021 arrives in London on the 18th September and is the creation of Michael and Wes Johnson-Ellis, founders of My Surrogacy Journey® and TwoDadsUK®.

In just a few weeks’ time, The Modern Family Show 2021 will open its doors at the iconic 8 Northumberland, just off Trafalgar Square, London.

This ground-breaking Central London event will be aimed exclusively at the LGBTQ+ community. Those who want to grow their families can hear from leading experts in their fields. With an educational focus on; Adoption, Fostering, Co-Parenting, IVF/IUI, Surrogacy (UK and Int’l), Solo Parenting, Sperm and Egg Donation and Fertility Preservation for the trans community.

With a 40% increase in same sex families since 2015 following the legalisation of gay marriage, founders of established online brand TwoDadsUK, and My Surrogacy Journey, decided to create a bespoke extravaganza for their community.  Visitors can expect to see a show finished to a standard rarely seen in the events industry. Every detail has been meticulously planned to support and protect LGBTQ+ visitors and their guests. All thanks to Wes Johnson-Ellis background in major events.

Fertility stats

According to the HFEA, heterosexual relationships still account for more than 91% of all fertility treatments and only saw a 2% increase between 2016 and 2017. This is in stark contrast to the increases in treatments for patients in female same-sex relationships which rose by 12% to 4,463 cycles, single women by 4% to 2,279 cycles and treatments for surrogates by 22% to 302 cycles between 2016 and 2017.

Surrogacy numbers have almost quadrupled in the last 10 years, and the number of same gender couples doubling, creators Wes and Michael Johnson-Ellis saw there was a need for a live event which would showcase all the options for modern family building in an inclusive, open and welcoming environment.

“This one-day boutique event is the only UK family creation show exclusively designed for the LGBTQ+ community, informing attendees about UK and international family creation options, with a real emphasis on education.” says Wes.

Visually stunning

“Visually this will be one of the most unique exhibitions of 2021; it’s a celebration of our community. We’ll be showcasing incredible educational material to support everyone from the wider LGBTQ+ community, whatever family building options they are interested in. With Keynotes from the incredible Trystan Reese ‘The Pregnant Man vs. The World’ and also a Q&A on trans parenting with Freddy McConnell, star of Seahorse

Michael adds: “The response to The Modern Family Show 2021 has been overwhelming. This event is here to celebrate family creation on all levels and we can’t wait to see everyone there”.

Hi everyone, So I’m Mike, guess I’m the crazy one who had the idea to sell our souls to Social Media and open up our world for everyone to comment on and observe our lives. I spend most nights (when not with Talulah and Duke obviously) with my phone glued to my hand, posting, sharing, liking and filming - all in readiness for Facebook, Insta and now YouTube. It’s getting to be a full time job, which is tricky - as I have one of those! For the last 18 years I have worked within Medical Recruitment and have worked in a variety of high pressured Operational and Business Development roles in London and the Midlands. More recently I am working for myself as it gives me greater flexibility with our new family via my Consultancy firm MJE Consultancy Ltd, where I attract and recruit Fertility Nurses, Embryologists and IVF Consultants and other specialist Doctors, as the Fertility Industry is my passion. I’m obviously one half of TwoDads.U.K and very proud of that fact too, and without doubt being a father is and has been the best job I’ve ever had. Nothing prepares you for the impact these little humans have on us, I know if you’re anything like me, the joy of being a parent just keeps on giving (whilst equally testing me too!). Don’t get me wrong, there’s days where I want to sit on the garage floor and drown myself in Gin but on the whole, life is better than it ever has been...
